Dense fog and cold weather alert in Punjab from today: No rain expected until December 29.

People in Punjab and Chandigarh will face biting cold and dense fog starting today. ​​Dense fog is expected during the night and morning hours. The weather will be dry and cold, with no possibility of rain. According to the Meteorological Department, an orange alert for dense fog has been issued until December 26th, and a yellow alert until December 29th.

On Tuesday, visibility in Amritsar was zero, while in Faridkot it was 10 meters. Similarly, visibility in Patiala, Ludhiana, and Gurdaspur was up to 50 meters. The minimum temperature in Gurdaspur was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius, while the highest temperature was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius in Anandpur.

Western Disturbance to become active from today
According to the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, there has been no rainfall in the plains so far. This has affected the fog and air quality. The Western Disturbances, which were previously affecting the Himalayan regions, have now moved beyond Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, there is no possibility of snowfall there on Christmas.

Now, cold winds will blow from the mountains towards the plains. From December 27th, a new and weak Western Disturbance may affect the Western Himalayan regions, which could lead to a change in the weather there.

Weather forecast for today
According to the Meteorological Department, light fog is expected today in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Rupnagar, and Mohali. However, very dense fog is likely in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala. The weather is expected to remain dry, meaning there is no chance of rain.
