Dense Fog in Haryana: IMD Issues Alerts as Trains, Buses and Daily Life Disrupted

Chandigarh: Severe cold and dense fog have begun to disrupt normal life in Haryana. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a very dense fog alert for several districts in the state. Fog could affect 20 districts in Haryana.

Fog is affecting rail and road traffic. Long-distance express trains are running several hours late. On Friday, the Malwa Express arrived in Panipat five hours late. Meanwhile, the Gorakhdham Express arrived in Hisar about three and a half hours late.

Roadways has also cancelled buses scheduled for 11 pm and 4 am from most depots. As a result, commuters had to wait for hours for their daily commute. Meteorologists predict dry weather throughout the state until December 23rd. A western disturbance may cause light drizzle in some northern areas.

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert

IMD issued an alert for Hisar, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Jind, Kaithal, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Panchkula, Nuh, and Palwal. An orange alert has been issued for Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Gurugram, and Faridabad. Clear weather is expected in Sirsa and Fatehabad.

Train Services Hit, Long Delays Reported

Dense fog has severely affected railway operations. Long-distance express trains are running several hours late. On Friday, the Malwa Express reached Panipat five hours late, while the Gorakhdham Express arrived in Hisar around three and a half hours late.

Several Trains Running Late in Hisar

Multiple express trains are facing delays in Hisar. The Gorakhdham Express (12555) is running about two and a half hours late. The Tirupati–Hisar Express is delayed by over two hours.
The Haridwar–Bhavnagar Express and Tripura Sundari Express (14619) are both running nearly three hours behind schedule.

16 Express Trains Delayed in Panipat

Fog has delayed at least 16 express trains in Panipat. The Unchahar Express (14217) is running about eight hours late, while the Katihar–Amritsar Express (15707) is delayed by nearly seven hours.
Other delayed trains include the Malwa Express, Jhelum Express, Swaraj Express, and Mumbai–Amritsar Express.

Fog can exacerbate farmers’ difficulties

Agricultural scientists have issued an advisory for farmers in light of the fog. Farmers planting wheat and mustard crops should irrigate in the afternoon instead of the morning. Irrigate mustard only lightly and avoid water stagnation.

Mustard is at risk of white rust; spray Mancozeb if symptoms appear. Red rot in sugarcane: Avoid allowing water from affected fields to flow into other fields. Harvest leafy vegetables only after sunrise and the fog clears, otherwise moisture can cause the crop to rot. Use agricultural machinery with extreme caution during fog.

Advice for livestock farmers:

Avoid tying animals outdoors at night; keep them under a shed. Provide only lukewarm water for drinking. Ensure 50 grams of iodized salt and 50-100 grams of mineral mixture are added to the animal feed daily. Ensure proper ventilation in the shed, but ensure that the animals are not exposed to direct cold air.
