Dense Fog in Himachal Pradesh: Orange Alert Issued in Bilaspur, Snowfall Expected Soon

Shimla: Dense fog enveloped the plains of Himachal Pradesh this morning. Visibility dropped below 50 meters, particularly in Bilaspur. The Meteorological Center, Shimla, has issued an orange alert for dense fog in Bilaspur for today and the next three days.

Orange Alert Issued for Bilaspur

In addition to Bilaspur, dense fog also enveloped the lower areas of Hamirpur, Mandi, Kangra, Solan, and Sirmaur districts. Visibility dropped below 100 meters in many areas. For the first time this winter season, an orange fog alert has been issued. In light of this, people are advised to exercise caution while driving in the morning and avoid unnecessary travel during the next three days.

The fog has increased the cold in the plains during the mornings, evenings, and nights. Nights in the plains are already colder than Shimla due to the fog. Now, the dense fog has further increased the cold.

Pleasant weather for tourists

The good news is that the weather is pleasant these days at the state’s popular tourist destinations. Manali, Shimla, Kufri, Dalhousie, Narkanda, and Kasauli are experiencing neither fog nor extreme cold.

Clear Weather Till December 27

According to the Meteorological Department, clear weather will prevail across the state from December 25th to 27th. Sunshine will keep daytime temperatures above normal during this period, while fog in the plains will cause nighttime temperatures to drop. Currently, day and night temperatures are above normal in most cities.

Light Snowfall Likely on December 28 and 30

The weather is expected to change in three days. According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Center, Shimla, some high-altitude areas may experience light snowfall on December 28th and 30th. Other areas will remain clear.

This snowfall is forecast to occur on the higher peaks of Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Kangra, and Chamba districts. The snowfall will slightly increase the cold. However, the mountains are not experiencing the same cold as in December.
