Dense fog alert for two days in Punjab: Rain expected from tomorrow, Nawanshahr remains coldest

Dense fog is currently prevailing in Punjab and Chandigarh. The cold has intensified considerably in the mornings and evenings. A yellow alert for dense fog has been issued for today and tomorrow as well. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain in some areas from December 20 to 22.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature has increased by 0.3 degrees Celsius. Nawanshahr was the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 6.9 degrees Celsius. Patiala, Ludhiana, and Amritsar experienced the densest fog. On the other hand, the Chandigarh Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the increasing pollution and has sought a report in this regard. However, the Chandigarh Meteorological Department had already issued a weather advisory.

Strong winds have reduced pollution

According to the Meteorological Department, the wind speed has increased slightly, which has led to some reduction in pollution and fog. A Western Disturbance has become active, due to which there is a possibility of snowfall in the hilly areas. The department has divided the cities into two categories today.

Dense fog is likely to prevail in some parts of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Bathinda, Barnala, Sangrur, Patiala, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Ludhiana, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Nawanshahr, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Fazilka, Muktsar, and Mansa districts.

Weather forecast for the coming days

There is a possibility of light rain in some parts of the state between December 20 and 22. The weather will remain dry from December 18 to 19 and from December 23 to 24. There will be no significant change in the minimum temperature in the next 24 hours, after which the temperature may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the plains of Northwest India.

Due to dense fog, five flights to and from Chandigarh Airport have been delayed. The affected routes include Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.
