Dense fog in several districts of Punjab to continue till January 1st; Gurdaspur remains coldest

Dense fog blanketed several districts of Punjab and Chandigarh today (Saturday). This condition is expected to persist until January 1st. However, there is no possibility of rain during this period. The minimum temperature in the state increased by 2 degrees in the last 24 hours, remaining 3 degrees above normal.

Gurdaspur was the coldest place in the state, recording a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius. Patiala recorded the lowest maximum temperature in the plains at 14.6°C. The Punjab Health Department has issued an advisory to people to protect themselves from the cold. It advises seeking immediate medical attention if they experience any health problems. Zero visibility was recorded in Amritsar and Halwara. Similarly, dense fog was recorded in Patiala.

According to the Meteorological Department, a new weak Western Disturbance is likely to become active in the Himalayan region from December 27th. This will cause a temporary rise in temperature, while another Western Disturbance will arrive on December 30th. This may lead to snowfall in the hilly areas.

Dense to very dense fog is likely in some areas of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala, and SAS Nagar (Mohali). The weather is expected to remain dry.
