Devoleena takes legal action against trolls targeting her son with racist comments

Mumbai: Television actress Devoleena Bhattacharjee has taken legal action against social media trolls who targeted her young son, Joy, with racist comments. The actress, whose son faced recent online abuse, emphasized that her fight is against racism and discrimination, and she envisions a society free from such biases.

Devoleena stated, “As a celebrity, I accept trolling—whether it’s about my work or lifestyle. I don’t let it affect me. I’ve always known that love and hate go hand in hand. I chose to stay silent, even when trolls questioned my marriage, because that was my right. But my silence has been misinterpreted.”

She expressed frustration that her silence was taken for granted, especially when trolls crossed boundaries by targeting her young son. “Racism is a crime,” she said firmly. “My son will grow up strong enough to face such challenges, but I’m determined to stand up against this injustice now. After all, he’s my son, Devoleena’s son.”

To address this, she has shared screenshots of the hateful comments and is filing a cybercrime case. Devoleena reaffirmed her commitment to combating racism, stating, “I am taking a stand to fight against racial discrimination. I dream of a society where everyone can enjoy their human rights without prejudice. Each of us can and should stand against racial bias and disrespectful behavior. Let’s not tolerate such attitudes but hold perpetrators accountable.”

She concluded by saying that she has pursued legal action to ensure that no one else and their children suffer similar harassment in the future. She also credited the cybercrime authorities for taking the matter seriously. Though many accounts involved in trolling have disappeared from social media, she assured they will be traced.

Devoleena, who married his gym trainer Shanwaz Shaikh in December 2022, welcomed her son Joy in December 2024.
