DGP Gaurav Yadav Arrests Shooter in Chandigarh University Firing Case

Chandigarh: Punjab’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with the Chandigarh Police, arrested Jaspreet Singh alias Jas, the main accused in the firing on student leader Jaspreet Singh Jawanda at Punjab University. The incident took place on March 17, 2026.

Arrest after brief encounter

The accused was arrested after a brief encounter with police on the Amloh-Patran Road. He was injured during the encounter and was immediately hospitalized for treatment.

Clues linked to the Bambiha gang

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the attack was carried out at the behest of the Doni Bal/Bambiha group, indicating the involvement of an organized gangster network.

The investigation is ongoing to unravel the back and forth links in this case.
