‘I Am a Street Fighter, Not an AC Room Activist’: Dharmendra Pradhan Breaks Silence After Resignation
July 27, 2026
New Delhi: Former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday issued a defiant message days after resigning from the Union Cabinet, declaring that he is “a street fighter, not an AC room activist,” and asserting that public service remains his primary commitment.
Pradhan’s remarks came amid continuing political debate over his resignation following the nationwide protests linked to the alleged NEET paper leak controversy.
Pradhan says public service is his identity
Addressing supporters after his resignation, Pradhan said his political journey had always been rooted in working among people rather than remaining confined to offices.
Describing himself as a “street fighter”, he said he has faced political challenges throughout his career and would continue serving the nation with the same commitment despite stepping down from the ministerial post.
Warm welcome in Parliament
Pradhan received a rousing welcome from BJP-led NDA members when he arrived in Parliament on Monday, with party colleagues raising slogans in his support.
The reception came just two days after he resigned as Union Education Minister, reflecting continued backing from party leaders despite the controversy surrounding the alleged examination paper leak.
Resignation followed nationwide protests
Pradhan resigned on July 25 after weeks of nationwide protests over the alleged NEET paper leak. The Centre subsequently accepted several demands raised by protesters, including examination reforms and other measures aimed at strengthening the integrity of the public examination system.
The government has since introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, proposing fast-track courts, stricter punishments, Special Task Forces and time-bound investigations to curb paper leaks and examination malpractice.
