CM Lays Foundation Stone for 35-KM Dhussi Bandh Road in Jalandhar, Connecting Dozens of Villages

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today laid the foundation stone for a 35-kilometer-long paved road over the Dhussi Dam on the Sutlej River in Shahkot during his Jalandhar visit. This road, stretching from Giddarpindi to Phillaur, will connect dozens of villages in the area.

Thousands of people in the flood-affected region will benefit from this initiative, thanks to the long efforts of Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and the Mann government. It also fulfills their long-standing demand. Balbir Singh Seechewal said this will make travel easier for the people.

 Chief Minister arrived under heavy security

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann specially visited Jalandhar on Friday. During this time, very tight security arrangements were made. The entire banks of the Sutlej River in Jalandhar were turned into a police cantonment. Amid this high security, he reached Shahkot and laid the foundation stone for the Dhussi Dam road.

Construction of a 35-kilometer long paved road

Under this project, a strong and paved road will be built on the Dhussi Dam of the Sutlej River, from Giddarpindi to Phillaur. This road will be about 35 kilometers long. Once completed, it will significantly improve travel for people in the whole area and nearby regions, providing relief to local residents.

Appreciation of Saint Sechewal’s Efforts

During this foundation stone ceremony, Rajya Sabha member Saint Balbir Singh Sechewal was particularly present along with the Chief Minister. Saint Sechewal had been continuously working for a long time to turn this historic project into reality. Local people are seeing his efforts as a major achievement.

The demand rose after the 2023 flood

On this occasion, Sechewal recalled the old disaster of 2023, saying that the Dhussi dam near Mandala Channa suddenly broke. The dam’s collapse caused flooding across the entire area, resulting in heavy losses for the people. Since then, there has been a continuous demand to strengthen the dam and build a proper road on it.

Dozens of villages will get direct benefits

Saint Sechewal further explained that this new paved road, running from Giddarpindi to Phillaur, will directly connect dozens of villages in the region. It will make travel easier for people and also strengthen the dam. This demand from the area had been pending for many years, which the Bhagwant Mann government has now fulfilled.

Locals were upset with previous governments

On this occasion, a large number of people from Mandala Channa, Gatta Mundi Kasu, Giddarpindi, and several nearby villages were present. The local residents shared their grievances, saying they had been demanding the construction of this road for many years, but no previous government paid attention to this serious issue.

Expressing gratitude to the government

The villagers happily said that the current government has laid the foundation stone for this road. They hope that the construction work will be completed soon, which will relieve the locals from a long-standing problem and make their lives easier.
