Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Thapi’ Row Sparks Khalistani Backlash During World Tour

Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Aura World Tour 2026’ has become embroiled in controversy. During a show in Calgary, Canada on April 30, some people waved Khalistani flags, to which Diljit reacted sharply from the stage. He patted his thigh and said that anyone who spoils the atmosphere will be picked up and thrown out.

Following this reaction, Khalistani supporters expressed their outrage on social media. On May 3, a handle openly challenged Diljit, stating that his “thrashing” was not against Khalistan, but against the sect. It also threatened that his “ego” would be broken like that of other artists.

It has also been claimed that a complaint has been filed regarding the Calgary show, although no official statement has been issued by the local police.

Meanwhile, Diljit responded to the controversy during his show in Edmonton on May 2, saying he felt “caught in the middle.” He said that in India he is called a Khalistani, while abroad he is called a representative of India.

He also clarified that he speaks for Punjab on every platform and has been raising social issues. Diljit said that he does not care if anyone protests because of his love for Punjab, but strict action will be taken against those who disturb the peace at the concert.
