New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR in connection with the 2020 death of celebrity manager Disha Salian, following the Bombay High Court’s direction for a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The development comes two days after Salian’s father, Satish Salian, recorded his statement before the CBI as part of the agency’s newly ordered probe.
The Bombay High Court had on September 2 directed the CBI to register an FIR and conduct a fresh investigation into Disha Salian’s death. The court also directed the agency to appoint a suitably experienced and senior officer to supervise the investigation. The court said the probe should examine all aspects surrounding the circumstances in which Salian lost her life.
Satish Salian Names Several People In Statement
During his statement before the CBI, Satish Salian alleged that several individuals played a significant role in what he described as a conspiracy and subsequent cover-up surrounding his daughter’s death.
His statement sought investigation into allegations including criminal conspiracy, creation and propagation of what he described as a false suicide narrative, and alleged suppression, destruction or fabrication of evidence.
The names mentioned in the statement include Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Rohan Roy, Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi, Aaditya Thackeray’s security personnel, Rhea Chakraborty, Showik Chakraborty, former police officer Sachin Vaze, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, DCP Vishal Thakur and former Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh, besides several police officials.
The statement also refers to personnel associated with Malvani Police Station, doctors and medical staff allegedly connected with the post-mortem process, personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory in Kalina and security guards of Regent Galaxy Building.
These are allegations contained in the father’s statement and are not findings of the CBI. The Bombay High Court has made it clear that no person is to be treated as an accused unless the investigating officer finds sufficient material during the probe. The court also clarified that its decision to order an FIR and fresh investigation did not amount to a finding of guilt against any individual.
Why Bombay High Court Ordered Fresh CBI Probe
The Bombay High Court ordered the fresh investigation after observing discrepancies in the earlier police inquiry into Salian’s death.
The court said the investigation carried out by the police raised more questions than it answered and found that the circumstances warranted a proper and substantive investigation. Among the issues discussed were the timing of the spot panchnama, the presence of police personnel at the building, discrepancies in the accidental death report and forensic material, and the delay in seizure of Salian’s phone and laptop.
The court, however, did not hold that any particular person was responsible for Salian’s death. It directed the CBI to independently investigate all aspects of the case while ensuring that no innocent person is harassed and that any offender identified through evidence is dealt with according to law.
Disha Salian’s Death In June 2020
Disha Salian, who worked as a celebrity manager and had briefly managed actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area.
Mumbai Police had initially registered an Accidental Death Report and investigated the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case subsequently attracted widespread attention because Salian died only six days before Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020.
The proximity of the two deaths led to widespread speculation about a possible connection between them, although such claims have never been established as fact.
Sushant Singh Rajput Death Case: What The CBI Found
The Sushant Singh Rajput case was separately investigated by the CBI after it took over the probe in 2020 following an FIR registered in Patna on a complaint by his father, K.K. Singh.
In March 2025, the CBI filed closure reports in cases related to Rajput’s death, saying its investigation had found no evidence of foul play or criminal conspiracy. The agency’s findings were based, among other things, on forensic examination and investigation of allegations made in the case.
The CBI’s 2025 closure report therefore did not establish a criminal link between Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and Disha Salian’s death. The renewed CBI investigation into Salian’s case is a separate proceeding arising from the Bombay High Court’s September 2026 order.
CBI Had Sought Earlier Records From Mumbai Police
Before registering the FIR, the central agency had also sought documents and records related to Disha Salian’s death from Malvani Police Station to facilitate its investigation.
The CBI is now expected to examine the existing case records, statements, forensic material and other evidence as part of the fresh probe.
The investigation will determine whether the allegations raised by Salian’s father are supported by evidence and whether there is any criminal liability arising from the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death.
For now, the registration of the FIR marks the beginning of the fresh CBI investigation and does not establish the allegations against any of the individuals named in the complaint or statement.
