Disproportionate assets case against suspended DIG Bhullar, ED may also start investigating

The CBI has registered a case of disproportionate assets against suspended DIG of Ropar range Harcharan Singh Bhullar, whom the CBI had arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹8 lakh from a scrap dealer. The CBI is now preparing to take Bhullar on remand for questioning, 14 days after his arrest. Bhullar’s ​​judicial custody is ending on October 31.

The CBI investigation found that Bhullar’s ​​monthly salary in August and September 2025 was around ₹474,000. His declared total income for the year 2024-25 was around ₹45.95 lakh, which works out to a net income of around ₹32 lakh after taxes. The CBI recovered over ₹7.36 crore in cash during a raid at his house. This amount does not match his known sources of income and is a clear case of disproportionate assets.

Abuse of office

The bureau said Bhullar misused his office to benefit himself financially. The investigating agency has recommended that its Delhi headquarters investigate the case further under sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. It is understood that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) may also start investigating the case soon.

Property in the name of wife, son and daughter

On October 16, the CBI registered a case against Bhullar under the Prevention of Corruption Act and searched his house in Chandigarh. Apart from cash, gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 2.32 crore, 26 expensive watches, and five luxury vehicles, including a Mercedes and an Audi, have been recovered from the house.

Documents of 150 acres of agricultural land, two houses in Chandigarh and several commercial properties have also been seized. These properties are in the names of the DIG’s wife, Tejinder Kaur, son, Gurpartap Singh and daughter, Tejkiran Kaur.
