Divya Dutta Calls ‘Last Man in Tower’ Character Sangeeta ‘Vulnerable, Protective, Greedy’

Mumbai: Actress Divya Dutta has opened up about her character Sangeeta in the upcoming film Last Man in Tower, describing her as a woman shaped by everyday pressures, vulnerabilities and conflicting emotions.

Speaking during the film’s promotions in Mumbai alongside co-star Manoj Bajpayee and director Ben Rekhi, Dutta explained how Sangeeta’s personal circumstances influence her choices and personality.

‘She could have been any other woman’

Dutta said Sangeeta represents a woman trying to make her life more comfortable while dealing with several pressures at home.

She described a character who has a child with special needs, may have limited communication with her husband and has gradually stopped paying attention to herself amid the demands of everyday life.

According to Dutta, these seemingly small aspects of Sangeeta’s life are important in understanding her character.

She said the routine and pressures of daily life can become frustrating and leave a person vulnerable or angry, even when there is no outlet to openly discuss those emotions.

    ‘Vulnerable, protective, greedy’

Dutta said all these emotions and experiences come together to shape Sangeeta.

She described her as an “honest woman” who can simultaneously be “vulnerable, protective, greedy” and someone the audience may still empathise with.

The actress added that viewers may even find themselves against Sangeeta at certain points, but the character exists in a morally grey space rather than being simply right or wrong.

‘Every scene gives you a different you’

Dutta said she enjoys playing characters that contain several shades and evolve throughout the story.

She noted that working with director Ben Rekhi and Manoj Bajpayee on the scenes often led to unexpected ideas and interpretations emerging on set.

According to the actress, discovering something different about a character with every scene is one of the most enjoyable aspects of acting.

Last Man in Tower is scheduled to release in cinemas on September 11, 2026.
