Chennai: Amid growing pressure within the DMK-led alliance, the party leadership has taken a firm stand and asked its allies to accept the proposed seat-sharing formula by Monday (March 23), or election preparations could be delayed.
With the Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, the time left has accelerated negotiations.
VCK, CPI(M), DMDK yet to agree
Despite several rounds of meetings, key allies like the VCK, CPI(M), and DMDK have yet to agree on the DMK’s proposed seat-sharing arrangement.
This disagreement has increased unease within the alliance, especially with the nomination process about to begin.
VCK expresses displeasure, CPI(M) deliberates
The VCK has expressed the most displeasure. Party chief Thol Thirumavalavan expressed dissatisfaction with the low seat-sharing arrangement in a video message. However, according to sources, behind-the-scenes talks are ongoing, and the possibility of an agreement remains.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) has also intensified internal meetings to finalize its strategy. The party is currently considering the DMK’s proposal and has not made a final decision.
MNM refuses alliance symbol, talks continue
Meanwhile, the DMDK, which recently joined the alliance, has stated that talks are ongoing and the number of seats and division of constituencies will be decided by mutual consent.
Another complication emerged when Kamal Haasan’s party, the MNM, refused to contest on the DMK’s election symbol. The party has made it clear that it will contest the elections using its own ‘torchlight’ symbol.
With the deadline approaching, the coming days will prove crucial in determining the direction of this alliance.
