New Delhi: A quiet medical professional with a brilliant academic record, Dr Shaheen Shahid from Lucknow has emerged as one of the most shocking figures at the centre of the ongoing Delhi blast investigation. Once a respected pharmacology professor, she is now accused of being a key recruiter for Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and of running its women’s radicalisation network in India.

From Medical Faculty to Terror Accused

Investigations reveal that Dr Shaheen completed her MBBS and MD from Motilal Nehru Medical College, Allahabad, before joining as an assistant professor at Kanpur’s GSVM Medical College in 2006. Known for her disciplined nature, she served in various postings across Uttar Pradesh before vanishing from public life in 2013. Officials say she stopped reporting to work without leave and was officially terminated in 2021.

Her colleagues recall her as “intelligent but reserved.” Family members in Lucknow told investigators they had little contact with her after her 2015 divorce from Dr Zafar Hayat, an ophthalmologist.

Alleged Radicalisation and Recruitment

According to Delhi Police’s Special Cell, Dr Shaheen resurfaced in Faridabad, Haryana, where she allegedly joined Al-Falah University as a lecturer. There, she is believed to have led secret meetings of young doctors and students. The hostel room — number 13 in Building 17 — became the core of what investigators now describe as a “white-collar terror module.”

Officials allege that she was in charge of Jamaat-ul-Mominat, a JeM-affiliated women’s wing, tasked with radicalising educated women and recruiting them into the organisation. Digital evidence and WhatsApp groups seized during raids reportedly reveal her links with operatives in Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistan.

Connection to Delhi Blast and Faridabad Seizure

The investigation into 10 November’s Red Fort car blast led to the arrest of several suspects, including Dr Shaheen. Police claim her Maruti Swift car, found in Faridabad, contained an AK-47 rifle and ammunition. Subsequent raids uncovered nearly 2,900 kg of explosive materials from a nearby facility, believed to be part of a larger terror plot targeting Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Investigators say Dr Shaheen acted as a logistics link between local modules in Haryana and JeM handlers across the border. Her alleged role extends to coordination, recruitment, and ideological indoctrination.

A Case That Defies Stereotypes

Dr Shaheen’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the medical and academic community. Experts say her case highlights how extremist networks are now targeting educated, urban professionals — a phenomenon being described as “white-collar radicalisation.”

While authorities continue to probe her finances, digital trail, and associates, her family maintains that she has been “wrongly implicated.”
