Punjab: Domestic LPG cylinder prices have increased by Rs 29 in Punjab and Chandigarh. The new rates came into effect from midnight today.

In Ludhiana, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder has risen from Rs 940 to Rs 969. In Jalandhar, the same cylinder will now cost Rs 971.50, up from Rs 942.50.

Similarly, in Mohali, the price has increased from Rs 922.50 to Rs 951.50, while in Chandigarh it has gone up from Rs 922.50 to Rs 951.50.

Second Hike in Three Months; Total Increase Rs 89

This is the second LPG price hike in three months. Earlier, on March 7, LPG cylinder prices were increased by Rs 60. With the latest revision, domestic LPG has become Rs 89 costlier within three months.

According to PTI sources, oil companies have cited rising global energy costs and losses in domestic sales as reasons behind the price hike.

Oil Companies Claim Heavy Losses per Cylinder

Reports quoting PTI sources said that public sector oil marketing companies were facing losses of around Rs 703 per domestic cylinder. The latest price hike is expected to offset only part of this under-recovery.

Earlier, on April 8, 2025, domestic LPG prices were increased by Rs 50, while on March 1, 2026, commercial LPG cylinder prices were raised by up to Rs 31. Prices of 5-kg cylinders were also increased by Rs 11, taking them to Rs 821.50.

Fuel Price Hikes Also Impact Petrol, Diesel, and CNG

In recent weeks, petrol, diesel, and CNG prices have also seen increases. Petrol and diesel prices rose by about Rs 7.50 per litre in May, while CNG became costlier by around Rs 6 per kg.

Companies reportedly face losses of about Rs 11 per litre on petrol and Rs 33.6 per litre on diesel, though they continue to be sold below cost.

Officials say global crude price fluctuations are not fully passed on to consumers, as government-owned oil companies absorb part of the burden.

How LPG Cylinder Prices Are Determined

LPG prices are determined based on international market rates, exchange rate fluctuations between the rupee and the US dollar, and costs related to import, transportation, bottling, and distribution.

Oil marketing companies set prices after considering overall costs and market conditions, along with the impact of government taxation and subsidy policies.
