2022 Double murder case in Ludhiana: Court sentences three accused to life imprisonment

The court has delivered a significant verdict in a sensational double murder case in Ludhiana, Punjab. The court of Additional Sessions Judge Dr. Rajneesh convicted three accused, including a woman, for the murder of a 36-year-old man and his mother-in-law. The court sentenced the accused, identified as Gopi Chand alias Gopi, Ahmed Ansari, and his wife Kiran Devi, residents of Satjot Nagar, to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 each.

The incident occurred in 2022

On November 20, 2022, 36-year-old Ravi, a resident of Basant Avenue, Satjot Nagar, and his 60-year-old mother-in-law, Noor Jahan, were murdered. An FIR was filed based on the statement of Ravi’s wife, Raveena.

According to Raveena, the accused lived with her family in the labor quarters. On September 17, 2022, her husband, Ravi, was drinking alcohol outside his room, while Gopi Chand was also drinking alcohol outside his room. It is alleged that Gopi Chand, due to an old grudge, began abusing Ravi and accusing him of staring at him. When Ravi protested, Gopi Chand called his friends, Ahmed and Kiran, to the scene. The three attacked him.

Attack with Sticks and Iron Rods
Raveena stated that the three accused attacked her husband with sticks and iron rods. Her mother, Noor Jahan, who came to intervene, was also brutally beaten. After the incident, the accused fled the scene, leaving both seriously injured.

Died in the hospital

Raveena took them to the hospital, where they were discharged after first aid. However, their condition later deteriorated. They were then taken to the Civil Hospital, where Ravi and Noor Jahan died during treatment.
