DRI seizes 103 kg cannabis hidden in car’s secret cavities, Two arrested

Ludhiana, Punjab: In a major breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ludhiana Zonal Unit, recovered 103 kg of cannabis (ganja) which was found hidden in a specially modified car near ICD GRFL, Sahnewal.

The team also arrested two persons who were transporting the contraband in the said car.

According to the officers of DRI, there was a tip off about the contraband being transported in the car following which DRI Ludhiana Zonal Unit mounted surveillance and intercepted the car near ICD GRFL, Sahnewal in Ludhiana and on frisking, 74 packets of cannabis were recovered from the car.

Contraband Hidden in False Floors and Secret Chambers

DRI officers mentioned that the smugglers had constructed false floors within the vehicle bodywork—a method commonly used to fabricate hidden chambers behind rear seats, in the trunk area, or beneath the original flooring.

There were certain sections created in the front and rear portion of the vehicles where the contraband was hidden and each packet was wrapped in khakhi-coloured tape.

103 kg Cannabis Seized; Investigation Underway

The team seized the contraband which was in total 103kg, valued at around Rs 31 lakh in illicit market and also seized the vehicle used in the crime. Further investigation is in progress.
