Drug and mobile supply racket busted in Ludhiana jail; FIR against 3

Ludhiana’s Central Jail on Tajpur Road is once again embroiled in controversy. The vigilance of the prison administration and police has uncovered a major racket operating within the prison. Shockingly, the drug and mobile phones were being supplied to the inmates by none other than a PESCO employee posted there. Based on a complaint by Assistant Superintendent Vijay Kumar, the police registered a case against not only the inmates but also a jail employee and arrested him.

Items Recovered During the Search

On February 22, 2026, the prison administration conducted a surprise check of the barracks. During the search, suspicious items were recovered from two inmates. 30 grams of narcotic powder, 1400 grams of tobacco, and two keypad mobile phones were recovered from Satwinder Singh and Ricky, a prisoner.

Shocking Revelations Made During the Interrogation

When Satwinder and Ricky were interrogated rigorously by the prison authorities, they spilled the beans. The accused revealed that these items were being supplied to them from outside the prison. A jail employee, Manpreet Singh, played a key role in this.

How was the delivery carried out?

Interrogation revealed that Manpreet Singh would throw packets of drugs and mobile phones inside the prison from the outer wall. He would then hide these packets near the prison barracks, where the prisoners would pick them up and supply or use them further.

Police Action

Following a report sent to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, the police have registered a case against the accused under sections 22, 29, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act.
