Ludhiana: The team of anti-narcotic cell arrested a Jalandhar based drug peddler and recovered 3kg opium from his possession. The police also seized a Maruti Baleno car which the accused was driving.
The accused has been identified as Mankirat Singh of village Sarih of Jalandhar district. The police arrested the accused near village Jhande cut railway line when the accused was passing from there in a Baleno car.
ASI Amarjit Kumar, investigating officer, said that the team had put up a checkpoint near village Jhande cut and stopped the accused for checking. On frisking, the team recovered 2 kg opium from the vehicle and then on the basis of information provided by the accused during questioning, the team recovered 1 kg more from his house.
The investigating officer said that during questioning the accused confessed to bringing opium from the Rajasthan side.
He added that the accused is facing around seven FIRs including section of attempt to murder and he was out of jail on bail and now indulged in drug peddling.
A case under sections 18(B), 61, 85 of the narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances act has been registered against the accused at Sarabha Nagar police station. The accused is being further questioned to know the persons involved in the supply chain and to ascertain other information.
