Drugs Worth ₹450 Crore Seized: Two Arrested in Amritsar with 64 kg of Heroin; Links Traced to Pakistan’s ‘Musa Gang’

As part of the ongoing campaign against drug trafficking in Punjab, 64.62 kilograms of heroin have been seized in Amritsar. The value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be approximately ₹450 crore in the international market.

This international-level drug trafficking module was dismantled through a joint operation conducted by the Amritsar Special State Operations Cell (SSOC) and Punjab Counter-Intelligence. During the operation, two accused individuals—Sarwan Singh (a resident of Ava village) and Shamsher Singh (from Ikhtiarnagar village) were arrested.

The accused were apprehended with the drugs near Mahal village in the Amritsar district. Preliminary investigations have revealed that this network has links extending to handlers based abroad, as well as to Pakistan’s ‘Musa Gang.’ This syndicate was engaged in smuggling drugs across the border and supplying them to Punjab and other states.

An FIR regarding this case has been registered at the SSOC Police Station in Amritsar, and further investigations are proceeding rapidly. Providing details on the matter, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the police’s objective is to reach the very roots of this entire network and apprehend all its accomplices.

Punjab’s Ongoing “War Against Drugs” Campaign

It is worth noting that the Punjab government recently launched the second phase of its “War Against Drugs” campaign. Under this initiative, various programs—such as rallies and public awareness drives—are being organized in every district to ensure maximum public outreach. The government asserts that this campaign represents a significant step toward transforming the fight against drugs into a mass movement.

Government to Establish “Pindan De Pahredar”

To curb drug abuse at the grassroots level, the government is now actively engaging the youth of rural areas in this campaign. Young people are being designated as “Pindan De Pahredar” (Village Sentinels) to enable them to provide accurate intelligence to the police regarding drug users and traffickers. To this end, the government has issued an appeal urging the youth to join and support this initiative.
