BJP Hails ABVP Victory In DUSU Polls, Targets Congress Over ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’ Remark

New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday welcomed the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) victory in the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, with party leaders targeting Congress over its student outreach and using the phrase ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’ to describe the opposition’s narrative.

ABVP won three of the four DUSU central panel posts — President, Secretary and Joint Secretary — while the Vice-President’s post was won by independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen. The Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) did not win any of the four central panel posts.

Nitin Nabin, Rajnath Singh Congratulate ABVP

BJP National President Nitin Nabin congratulated ABVP and said the victory reflected what he described as young people’s faith in “positive and constructive student politics” and the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated ABVP, saying the result reflected the youth’s faith in the “Nation First” policy. He expressed confidence that the organisation would continue working on student interests, national service and nation-building.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also reacted to the results, saying the ABVP victory showed that what Congress and opposition parties call ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ was, in his words, ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’.

Yash Dabas Wins DUSU President Post

In the results announced on Saturday evening, ABVP’s Yash Dabas defeated Congress-backed NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena by 2,053 votes.

Dabas secured 24,576 votes, while Meena received 22,523 votes.

Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the Vice-President’s post, while ABVP’s Riya Chhawadi won the Secretary’s post and Lakshyaraj Singh secured the Joint Secretary’s post.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also welcomed the results and linked the outcome to issues of patriotism, development and the ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.

A voter turnout of 40.46 per cent was recorded across 52 polling centres in Delhi University during voting on Friday. According to the data cited in the report, this was the highest turnout in the past three years, compared with 39.5 per cent last year.
