Senior Congress Leader, Former Governor and Educationist D.Y. Patil Dies at 90

Kolhapur: Senior Congress leader, former Governor and renowned educationist Dr Dnyandeo Yashwantrao (D.Y.) Patil passed away at the age of 90 in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur on Tuesday. He was widely known for his contributions to education, public service and institution building.

A recipient of the Padma Shri, D.Y. Patil served as the Governor of Bihar, Tripura and West Bengal during his public life. He was also the founder of the D.Y. Patil Group, which runs several educational institutions across India.

Political Career and Governor Tenure

D.Y. Patil began his political journey with the Indian National Congress and served as a legislator in Maharashtra before taking up constitutional responsibilities. He later served as Governor of Tripura from 2009 to 2013, Governor of Bihar from 2013 to 2014, and held additional charge as Governor of West Bengal in 2014.

Over the years, he remained an influential figure in Maharashtra’s public life, balancing politics with his work in education and social development.
