EAM Jaishankar holds talks with US Secretary of State Rubio in Canada

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Canada.

The two leaders discussed trade, supply chains, and key geopolitical challenges, including the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East situation, and developments in the Indo-Pacific region.

India’s Active Role at G7 Under Canadian Presidency

India is attending the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting as an invited partner alongside Brazil, Australia, and South Korea.

The two-day event, hosted under Canada’s presidency, centers on global security, energy cooperation, and economic resilience.

The Ministry of External Affairs said Jaishankar’s participation reflects India’s commitment to working with international partners and amplifying the “voice of the Global South.”

US-India Trade Deal on the Horizon

Jaishankar’s meeting with Rubio comes amid reports that the US and India are close to finalising a new trade agreement.

US President Donald Trump recently said, “We’re getting close to doing a deal that’s good for everybody,” during the swearing-in of Sergio Gor as the next US ambassador to India.

Trump reaffirmed his “fantastic relationship” with Prime Minister Modi, calling India one of America’s most important international partners.
