EAM Jaishankar says Terrorism as instrument of statecraft simply unacceptable, not all states display zero tolerance

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on Sunday that using terrorism as a tool of government policy is completely unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances. He said that the threat of terrorism still persists because not all countries adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards it.

Addressing the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Conference organized on the occasion of United Nations Day, Jaishankar said that the world needs to be more vigilant and aware of the common threat of terrorism.

He said, “Terrorism is another deadly threat to peace. Its use as a tool of government policy is completely unacceptable. It can neither be justified nor justified. Despite this, it continues because not all countries truly adopt a zero-tolerance policy. Despite the many lessons learned from history, some countries prioritize political interests.”

Jaishankar said that the world must increase its understanding and awareness of this common threat. Furthermore, all countries must unite and take strong action against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

Expressed concern over conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia

Referring to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, the Foreign Minister said that in this era of globalization, peace is interconnected. Conflicts in one part of the world impact people living in distant regions, even though they have no significant role in these conflicts.

He said that the world cannot remain a mute spectator in these circumstances. India has consistently emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are the only solutions to problems, echoing global sentiments. India is also making efforts in this direction and is ready to work with other partners.

Raised the issue of the 4F crisis facing the Global South

Jaishankar also highlighted the crisis facing the Global South related to finance, fuel, food, and fertilizers. He stated that the Global North also has a common interest in resolving these problems.

The Foreign Minister stated that immediate steps are needed to protect the international economy from risks. Countries should be provided with more diverse supply options. He stated that market disruptions and restrictions on vital supply routes exacerbate hardship for people. Meaningful dialogue on this issue is long overdue.

Emphasized Artificial Intelligence and Reform of the United Nations

Speaking on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Jaishankar said that such an important subject should not be controlled by a few individuals or countries. He reiterated India’s call for a responsible, inclusive, and human-centered approach to the development and use of AI.

Stressing the need for reforms within the United Nations, he said the need for reform within the multilateral system is growing day by day. Large parts of the world cannot be excluded from decision-making processes.

Jaishankar said the United Nations should play a leadership role during global crises rather than remaining a mere spectator.
