50 Saplings Planted in Kosi on Earth Day, Focus on Conservation
Almora, April 22: Earth Day 2026 was celebrated at the Govind Ballabh Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, located in Kosi. On this occasion, researchers associated with the Institute’s Land and Water Resources Centre and the NMHS participated in a tree-plantation drive. They pledged to protect the environment and planted 50 saplings of various species within the institute’s campus.
Environment protection stressed as urgent priority
Speaking on the occasion, Centre Head EMS Lodhi stated that environmental concerns have evolved into a grave issue. He emphasized the imperative need to work towards environmental conservation at every level. Lodhi noted that this year, programs are being organized across the country under the theme “Our Strength, Our Home.”
Focus on climate action, research and awareness
EMS Lodhi also highlighted challenges such as climate change, rising temperatures, and pollution. He stressed the importance of adopting continuous research and concrete measures to address these issues. Furthermore, he mentioned that workshops, lectures, and school-based programs focused on water conservation are being organized at most centers across the nation.
Experts stress awareness, plan more green initiatives
Speakers present at the event shared their insights on critical topics such as water conservation, glacial melting, and the energy crisis. They underscored the necessity of raising awareness among the future generation regarding sustainable development. The institute also outlined its plans to organize additional programs related to environmental conservation during the upcoming monsoon season.
More than 30 researchers and staff members participated in this tree-plantation drive. Notable participants included Ashutosh Tiwari, Himanshu Joshi, Maheshanand, Pushkar Singh, Kamal Kishore Tamta, Hem Tiwari, Priyanka Lohani, Deepa Verma, Jagdish Pandey, Yogesh Parihar, Arvind Tamta and Saurabh Negi.
