    Earthquake of 6.2 magnitude jolts Gurugram and North India, Epicenter was Afghanistan

    Gurugram, Sep 1: Earthquake tremors were felt in Gurugram, Haryana at midnight. People came out of their houses after feeling the tremors. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Hindukush region near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Its intensity was measured at 6.2 on the Richter scale.

    The tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. However, no casualties have been reported.

    In view of earthquake and other disasters in Gurugram, the district administration has kept the disaster management teams on alert.

    When and where did the earthquake occur

    •27 June: Earthquake tremors were felt in Mahendragarh district on the evening of 27 June. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the magnitude of the earthquake that day was measured at 2.8 on the Richter scale. Its depth was 5 kilometers.

    •10 July: On this day, the earthquake occurred at 9:05 am. The tremors lasted for about 10 seconds. Its epicenter was Jhajjar. Its intensity on the Richter scale was 4.4. The tremors of the earthquake were felt in Gurugram, Rohtak, Panipat, Jhajjar, Hisar, Rewari.

    •11 July: Tremors were felt at 7:49 pm. Its epicentre was also Jhajjar. According to the National Seismological Centre, its magnitude on the Richter scale was 3.7, the effect of which was felt in Gurugram, Rohtak, Jind, Rewari, Sonipat and Jhajjar.

    •16-17 July: Earthquake tremors were felt at 12.46 am. Its epicentre was Rohtak. Its intensity was recorded as 3.6 on the Richter scale. However, there was no damage of any kind.

    •17 July: Earthquake struck at 12:34 pm. Its epicentre was Jhajjar. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 2.5 on the Richter scale. Its epicentre was at a depth of 5 kilometres.

    •22 July: Earthquake tremors were felt in Faridabad at 6 am. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured 3.2 on the Richter scale. This tremor occurred at a depth of five kilometers in the ground.

    •August 10: Jhajjar was hit by an earthquake at 4:10 pm on Sunday. The magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 3.1 on the Richter scale.
