ECI and TMC clash over Bengal elections

Kolkata: A political firestorm erupted in West Bengal after the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a statement addressed to the Trinamool Congress.

The ECI stated that elections in the state should be free from fear, violence, and any pressure or inducement.

TMC responds
After meeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi, a TMC delegation expressed concern over the deletion of names from the voter list.

In response to the ECI’s statement, the party said that elections should be free from “Delhi control,” political bias, and selective action.

Rhetoric escalates tension
TMC leaders also questioned whether a constitutional body should use such “challenging language.”

Party leader Derek O’Brien accused the Chief Election Commissioner of not cooperating and said he was not properly heard.

ECI denies allegations
However, ECI sources dismissed these allegations, saying that the Chief Election Commissioner had asked the leaders to maintain decorum and keep their voices low during the meeting.

This development has further escalated political tensions in West Bengal ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
