ED files chargesheet against AAP leader Sanjeev Arora in alleged Rs 103 crore fake iPhone export case

Chandigarh: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against former Punjab cabinet minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjeev Arora in the alleged Rs 103 crore fake iPhone export and money laundering case. The agency has named him as the mastermind of the entire alleged scam. Sanjeev Arora has been in judicial custody since May 9. A Gurugram court has already rejected his bail plea, while his appeal is pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Alleged conspiracy using fake bills and shell companies

According to the ED, fake bills, fake export documents, and fabricated financial transactions were used to show that a large number of iPhones were shipped to Dubai. The agency alleges that approximately ₹103 crore was shown as export revenue, including ₹87 crore in export remittances and approximately ₹16 crore in IGST and duty drawback refunds. The investigation also revealed that several supplier companies existed only on paper and issued fake invoices without delivering any goods.

    Dubai Companies Also Under Investigation

According to the charge sheet, the alleged iPhone sales turnover was over ₹150 crore. More than ₹100 crore worth of iPhones were shown as exports to a Dubai-based company, which is also said to be an investor in Sanjeev Arora’s real estate company. The ED alleges that shell companies, fictitious buyers, and circular fund transfers were used in the entire transaction. The agency is also investigating the role of Dubai-based Fortbel Telecom FZCO and Dragon Global FZCO.

Property worth over ₹55 crore attached

During the investigation, the ED has attached assets worth over ₹55 crore belonging to Sanjeev Arora and his company, Hampton Sky Realty Limited. These include land, commercial properties, flats, bank accounts, and fixed deposits in Ludhiana, Gurugram, and Chandigarh. The agency claims that Sanjeev Arora was the authorized signatory on an ICICI Bank account that received over ₹100 crore in export proceeds. The investigation into other accused and financial transactions in the case is ongoing.
