ED Raids Three Premises Linked to Former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda

Chandigarh: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted searches at three premises linked to former Haryana Minister Gopal Kanda in connection with alleged financial irregularities involving real estate company Vatika.

The case relates to four projects in Gurugram, where around Rs 248.46 crore was allegedly collected from 661 investors. The investors were reportedly assured timely possession, fixed returns, lease rentals and completion of sale deeds. However, according to the allegations, possession was not handed over and the sale deeds were not completed.

ED Conducts Searches Under PMLA

The ED carried out searches under Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) at three locations in Gurugram linked to Kanda. The premises include his residence, farmhouse and office.

The agency is probing allegations that funds were diverted and subsequently transferred to various companies allegedly linked to Kanda.

Kanda’s Premises Were Also Searched in 2023

This is not the first ED action involving the former Sirsa MLA. In August 2023, ED teams had searched premises linked to Kanda, examining documents for around 21 hours.

At the time, officials conducted searches simultaneously at his residence in Civil Lines and the office of MDLR Airlines.

Kanda Was Also Named in Geetika Sharma Case

Gopal Kanda had earlier made headlines in connection with the 2012 death of former air hostess Geetika Sharma. He was accused in a case related to abetment of suicide and was arrested by Delhi Police.

In 2023, a court acquitted Kanda of all charges in the case.
