ED vs. TMC dispute now reaches Amit Shah’s office

New Delhi: The ongoing political conflict between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) escalated further in Delhi on Friday, with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducting raids directly outside Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s office. This development came a day after Mamata Banerjee’s dramatic visit to the I-PAC office and the home of the head of the political advisory group, following ED raids in Kolkata.

MPs stage sit-in protest in Delhi

At 8:30 a.m., eight TMC MPs staged a sit-in protest outside Amit Shah’s office. The MPs held placards and raised slogans, accusing the central government of targeting opposition parties ahead of the elections. This protest, while politically charged, also sent a strong message that the party was publicly challenging government pressure on its leaders and staff.

MPs, including Mahua Moitra, detained

During the protest, TMC MP Mahua Moitra was detained by police officers. While being picked up, Moitra shouted “Shame, shame!” Other MPs were also detained and removed by police shortly afterward for security reasons. Footage of the protest quickly went viral on social media, creating renewed turmoil in political circles.

TMC’s accusation against ED raids

The MPs alleged that the ED raids were politically motivated and that central agencies were being misused to suppress opposition parties ahead of the elections. The MPs stated that such actions were a threat to democracy and an attempt to suppress the opposition’s voice.

According to analysts, this demonstration wasn’t just a protest against the ED raids, but also a way to send a political message for the 2026 Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. A day before this incident, TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dramatically visited the I-PAC office and the home of its head, Pratik Jain. She displayed several documents, laptops, and mobile phones to the media, presenting it as a protest against the central government’s “political tactics.” This move emboldened the MPs and demonstrated their spirit.

Tensions Escalate Between the ED and the TMC

The sit-in and detention clearly indicate that the conflict between the ED and the TMC is growing. Party leaders demanded that the central government demonstrate transparency in its actions and refrain from taking action against the opposition before the elections. Meanwhile, the ED says its raids are merely part of the legal process and have nothing to do with politics.
