No interview of parents, child, prohibition on junk food: Punjab govt makes guidelines for playway schools

Chandigarh: Punjab government is going to implement a new policy for playway schools. Guidelines have been set from the building of playway schools to the teachers. Schools will be monitored by the department. There will be no screening test of the child or parent interview etc. for admission in schools. Junk food will be completely banned in these schools. Neither junk food will be brought from home in the tiffin nor junk food will be sold in or around the school.

This information was given by Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur in a press conference in Chandigarh. She has appealed to the parents to check whether the school is registered or not before enrolling their children in these schools. Information related to this will be uploaded on the website of the Social Welfare Department. The number of children between 3 to 6 years in Punjab is 40 thousand.

Whoever will get the benefit of this thing. It will be clear soon how many playway schools will be there in Punjab. She said that children’s health will not be allowed to be tampered with. Playway schools running in one room will be completely closed. She said that earlier the government had control over Anganwadi centers and now all the play way centres will be covered too.

The Punjab government has set these 14 guidelines for playway schools in Punjab

1. All the private and government play schools running in the state will be registered. After this, the government will have all the details of the children.

2. In the playway, a teacher will not be able to teach more than 20 children. A caretaker will also be with him. So that the health of the children is not compromised.

3. The boundary walls of the school should be safe, there will be proper space for the child to play.

4. The classrooms of the school should be open. At the same time, the arrangement of the restroom will also be decided. If the child feels sleepy, he can sleep there.

5. There will be separate toilets for boys and girls. These will be child-friendly. There will be provision of soap and towel there.

6. CCTV cameras have also been made mandatory in all schools.

7. In the playway, children will be taught playfully, the child cannot be threatened in any way. There will be no workload on them

8. The child will not be given any kind of punishment. The teacher will not be able to threaten the child. Apart from this, he will not be able to slap the child.

9. There will be a library inside the play way. There should be a provision of clean drinking water for the children.

10. The child’s health checkup will be done every month, its record will be kept. The school will keep the record of the child’s vaccination.

11. Fire safety, and health facilities will all be checked for the safety of the child in the school.

12. There will also be a guideline on how the fees will be taken in the school

13. There will be no screening test of the child and no interview of the parents at the time of admission.

14. A teacher Association will be formed. Also, junk food will be banned.
