Now there will be no need to clear UGC NET exam to become an Assistant Professor in Higher Education Institutes. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has released draft UGC guidelines for faculty recruitment and promotion in Higher Education Institutes i.e. HEIs. According to this, it will not be necessary to be NET qualified in the subject for Assistant Professor recruitment.
The draft guidelines have been released on the official website of UGC. These guidelines will be implemented after taking feedback and suggestions from industry experts and stakeholders. UGC can implement the guidelines after February 5.
According to the currently applicable UGC guidelines 2018, for the recruitment of Assistant Professor, it was necessary for the candidate to qualify NET in the same subject in which he has done post graduation (PG). In the new guidelines, candidates have the freedom to do NET in subjects other than PG. Also, candidates who have done PhD directly without doing NET will also be able to apply for Assistant Professor recruitment.
Teaching experience requirement for VC post eliminated
According to the draft guidelines, now it will not be necessary for the candidate to have 10 years of teaching experience to become the Vice Chancellor in any Higher Education Institute.
Experts in their field, who have 10 years of experience of working at the senior level and who have a good track record, can become Vice Chancellor (VC). For the appointment of VC, the university chancellor will form a committee which will take the final decision.
