Efforts for Easier Transportation

When the 2026 Economic Budget was presented, it became clear that efforts would be made to make transportation as seamless as possible to enhance Indian productivity and investment. Mobility of manufactured goods is crucial for production and investment. Uninterrupted mobility makes investments profitable, and reducing their per-unit costs increases profitability.

Therefore, rail routes are now being integrated with road routes to facilitate seamless transportation in the country. On Tuesday, Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu announced such a project. The Minister of State for Railways stated that to meet a demand that has been growing for the past 12 years, a four-lane railway overbridge will be constructed at Doraha on the Delhi-Ludhiana main line.

The project will cost Rs 70.55 crore (Rs 70.55 crore). It is announced that it will be completed within a year. This will provide significant relief to the public, as it will eliminate traffic bottlenecks at the crossing between Rupnagar and Doraha, a vital link between Punjab’s capital Chandigarh and the Malwa region. Approximately 190 trains pass through this crossing, and over 3,000 vehicles travel by road. Closing the gate causes traffic jams, forcing drivers to wait for long periods of time.

This causes significant inconvenience to commuters and traders. The construction of this ROB will alleviate these problems and increase the movement of goods and services, boosting economic activity.

The current government’s plan is not just to build such a bridge; work is currently underway to construct ROBs, underpasses, and low-rise subways at 166 locations across the state. A total investment of Rs 1,480.09 crore is being made on these projects. While there’s a promise to complete it within a year and ensure seamless traffic, it remains to be seen whether this multi-purpose project will be expedited.

Certainly, the announcements of new schemes are encouraging, but they shouldn’t be left hanging, or else the public’s problems will worsen.
