The administration has tightened its grip on the Nexus Elante Mall in Chandigarh’s Industrial Area, Phase 1. After issuing a show-cause notice to the mall management for detecting building violations in an area of approximately 35,040 square feet, the administration initiated demolition action on Sunday morning. Officials and police were present at the scene.
On Saturday, SDM East-cum-Assistant Estate Officer Khushpreet Kaur had sent this notice to M/s CSJ Infrastructure Private Limited (Elante Mall Management).
The biggest problem in the parking area
The Estate Office’s inspection report found 10 major building violations at the mall. The most serious of these concerns the parking area—22,000 square feet of space reserved for vehicle parking was converted into landscaping and greenery.
The administration will have to pay a fine daily
The administration’s estate department inspected the mall on August 8th. After two months and a hearing, a notice was issued after no improvements were made. According to regulations, the mall management will be fined ₹8 per square foot per day. This action was taken under the Chandigarh Estate Rules 2007 and the Capital of Punjab (Development and Regulation) Act 1952.
