Ludhiana: A 65-year-old grocery shopkeeper was brutally attacked and robbed by five armed miscreants in Punjab’s Laltan Kalan area. The accused allegedly assaulted the elderly man with sharp-edged weapons and fled with cash worth around Rs 25,000.

Police have registered a case against two identified accused and three unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). All the accused are currently absconding.

Victim Was Going to Buy Goods for His Shop

According to the complaint filed with the police, the victim, Sohan Singh, runs a grocery shop in Mansooran village. On May 22, he was travelling to the Verka plant in Ludhiana to purchase milk and curd for his shop, carrying cash meant for shop purchases.

Sohan Singh stated that when he reached the stretch between Laltan Kalan and Jheda village, around five youths who were allegedly lying in wait intercepted him on the road.

Before he could react, the accused attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and assaulted him brutally. The attackers then snatched cash worth Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 from him and fled the spot.

Two Accused Identified by Victim

After the incident, the injured shopkeeper informed the police that he managed to identify two of the attackers. According to him, both accused belong to his native village Mansooran and are known as Kinder and Jaggi. The identities of the remaining three accused are yet to be established.

Police Launch Search Operation

Investigating Officer (IO) Satnam Singh said that a case has been registered at Sadar police station based on the victim’s statement.

He added that raids are being conducted to arrest the accused and recover the looted cash. Police are also examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the unidentified suspects involved in the robbery.
