Chandigarh: The Punjab government has received a major relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court as the court has lifted the ban on Panchayat elections and dismissed all 700 petitions filed after hearing.
Additionally, the High Court has also lifted the stay on the election process of around 250 Panchayats until the 14th. Consequently, it is now clear that the voting will take place from 8 am tomorrow, October 15. Punjab Advocate General (AG) Gurminder Singh stated that this decision is a significant relief for the general public, as there were previously uncertainties surrounding the elections.

The High Court began hearing on the Panchayat elections earlier today, during which each petition was challenged on various grounds. The Advocate General of Punjab and his team were present in the court during this time. A petition was also filed against the Panchayats whose election process was previously stayed. The decision regarding this matter was reached at 3:45 pm. It is worth noting that most of the petitions were from leaders and supporters associated with Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress.
The Panchayat elections in Punjab are scheduled for October 15. This time, the elections will not be held using party symbols. However, opposition parties claim that the nominations of certain individuals and their associated candidates have been forcefully cancelled. No NOC (No Objection Certificate) has been issued to anyone.
The Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal have raised concerns about the Aam Aadmi Party government in the state, and the issue has also been brought to the attention of the Election Commission. However, the Aam Aadmi Party has stated that the Akali Dal and Congress are making baseless allegations, and they have also claimed that some of their workers have been killed. The matter has now been taken to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
