Kurukshetra (Haryana): Launching a sharp attack on Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said “those who gave Congress a chance in their states are regretting it” and sought a third term for BJP government in Haryana.
Addressing an election rally here, PM Modi referred to Congress governments in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh besides Karnataka and Telangana and alleged that people were suffering due to inflation, corruption and promises not fulfilled.
He alleged that there is no other party in the country “more dishonest and deceitful than Congress”.
“Those who gave Congress a chance in their states are regretting it. Congress’ lies have not spared even Karnataka and Telangana. There is a lot of chaos in Karnataka. Inflation and corruption are at their peak there. Development work has come to a standstill. After the Congress government came to power, both investment and jobs have been reduced. Congress is showing how good states can be ruined,” he said.
“Himachal Pradesh is in your neighbourhood. Two years ago, the Congress government was formed there. But what is the situation there today? No citizen of Himachal is happy today. Congress fed lies to every section, none of the promises made were fulfilled. Today, government employees are forced to go on strike there for their salary. Even the Chief Minister and Ministers have to pretend to give up their salary. There, Congress had promised to give Rs 1500 to women and thousands of women are still waiting for this money. In Himachal, Congress has made electricity, water, petrol, diesel, milk, everything expensive…There is no other party in the country more dishonest and deceitful than Congress,” he added.
PM Modi also launched a veiled attack on Aam Aadmi Party. He referred to Congress over its demands concerning the minimum support price of crops and asked if it had implemented this in party-ruled states.
“There is a ‘Kattar Beimaan Party’, this party also has only one policy – to win elections and empty the treasury. You see the condition of Punjab, what they have done. The people of Haryana should not let such parties come near them… I want to challenge that if Congress has the courage, then why doesn’t it implement its farmer schemes in Karnataka and Telangana? Show it by doing it somewhere,” the Prime Minister said.
He said in the last few years, Haryana has reached among the top states of the country in terms of investment and income.
“I am proud of this. We have seen the period of Congress government when the development money was limited to only one district. Every child of Haryana knows in whose pockets that money went. BJP has connected the whole of Haryana with the development,” he said.
“Two days ago, we have taken a very big decision which will benefit lakhs of families in Haryana. The BJP government has decided that all the elderly above the age of 70 will get free treatment of Rs 5 lakh,” he added.
PM Modi referred to the decisions taken by the BJP-led NDA government since it returned to power in the Lok Sabha polls.
“We had said that the first 100 days of the BJP government will be of big decisions. 100 days are yet to be completed, but our government has already started works worth about Rs 15 lakh crore. 3 crore pucca houses have been approved for poor families,” he said.
The Prime Minister urged people to again bring the BJP to power in Haryana.
“I have come to request you to form the BJP government once again. You have given me the opportunity to serve in Delhi for the third consecutive time and the enthusiasm that is being seen, my political experience tells me that Haryana has decided to form the BJP government for the third time.”
He lauded Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who is in the fray from Ladwa.
“Chief Minister himself is a candidate from Kurukshetra. Today, this son of Haryana is being praised all over the country. Very few people get so much popularity in such a short time and there is a reason for this. Our Chief Minister remains dedicated to the development of Haryana,” he said.
This was PM Modi’s first rally in Haryana for the assembly polls next month. Haryana will go to the polls on October 5 and votes will be counted on October 8
