Encounter breaks out in between Security Forces and Terrorists in J&K’s Rajouri

Rajouri: An encounter broke out on Tuesday between terrorists and security forces in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting the deployment of the Indian Army to the area.

The incident occurred when terrorists opened fire on a police team conducting a search operation based on intelligence about suspected movements. This triggered a firefight between the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police and the terrorists in the Beeranthub area of Rajouri.

Inspector General of Police (Jammu zone) Bhim Sen Tuti confirmed that reinforcements have been sent, and a joint operation involving the Army, police, and CRPF is underway to neutralize the terrorists. “Exchange of fire took place between terrorists and the SOG team in Beeranthub, PS Kandi. Security forces have cordoned off the area and joint search operations are ongoing,” he said.

No casualties have been reported so far. Authorities have imposed a strict cordon over the area, while search operations continue.

In a related development, security forces also conducted a cordon and search operation in the Dharni Top area of Udhampur district.

The Poonch-Rajouri belt has remained a high-risk area for terrorist activity, witnessing multiple attacks and encounters since October 2021.
