Sukma (Chhattisgarh): In a significant encounter on Friday morning in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, as many as 10 Naxals were killed in a clash with the District Reserve Guard (DRG). Inspector General (IG) of Bastar, P. Sundarraj, confirmed that the operation resulted in the recovery of various weapons, including INSAS rifles, AK-47s, and SLRs.

As of 11:30 AM, officials reported that the bodies of all 10 Naxals have been recovered, and the search efforts are ongoing. The DRG and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) initiated the operation based on intelligence about Naxal activities in the Konta and Kistaram Area Committees. The encounter has been taking place in the forested regions near the villages of Korajuguda, Dantespuram, Nagaram, and Bhandarpadar, under the jurisdiction of Bhejji police station.

Earlier updates indicated that the exchange of fire started early in the morning. Chief Minister Vishnudeo Sai highlighted the government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards Naxalism, stating that ensuring development, peace, and security for the citizens of Bastar is a top priority. He expressed confidence in the eventual eradication of Naxalism from Chhattisgarh and noted that the state government is aligning its efforts with the goals set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to eliminate Naxals by March 2026.

During a meeting with Amit Shah, the Chief Minister discussed the state’s progress against Naxal activities, reporting the elimination of nearly 200 Naxals in the past 11 months, alongside around 600-700 surrenders. The CM reassured that both the state government and security forces are diligently working towards a Naxal-free Chhattisgarh and fulfilling the central government’s vision of a Naxal-free India by the target date.

In a related event earlier, five Naxals were killed in a separate encounter in the Abujhmad region of Kanker, accompanied by a widespread joint operation involving DRG personnel, the Special Task Force (STF), Bastar Fighters, and the Border Security Force (BSF). During that operation, two soldiers were injured, and a large stash of weapons was also recovered.
