Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will be the chief guest at the upcoming 16th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), scheduled from August 14 to August 25. The festival organizers announced his participation through their Instagram account on Thursday. In addition to Aamir, actor-comedian Vir Das will also attend as a guest.
IFFM shared a heartfelt message in their announcement, praising Aamir as a legendary figure who has transformed Indian cinema through innovative storytelling, record-breaking films, and boundary-pushing creativity. They described him as a global icon whose influence extends beyond borders, languages, and genres.
The festival highlighted Aamir Khan’s significant role in sparking a worldwide conversation about inclusive education through his culturally impactful movie, Taare Zameen Par, which he directed, produced, and starred in. The film inspired schools and educators globally to adopt inclusive policies for diverse learners and became a cult classic across Asia, especially in China and the Middle East. It was India’s official entry for the 80th Academy Awards.
Recently, Aamir bagged rave reviews for his new film Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, directed by R.S. Prasanna. The movie explores the struggles of individuals with intellectual disabilities competing in a basketball tournament, earning over Rs 100 crore worldwide and receiving critical acclaim.
Aamir attended a special screening of Sitaare Zameen Par in Delhi’s Chanakyapuri, alongside Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. A similar event was held in Mumbai, attended by CM Devendra Fadnavis and his wife, Amruta Fadnavis, to honor specially-abled students. The event was marked by warm moments of interaction with Khan and other attendees.
Aamir Khan is set to appear in the upcoming Tamil-language action thriller Coolie, starring superstar Rajinikanth. The first look poster, released by the filmmakers, shows Khan in black and white, sporting round glasses and a rugged look, creating excitement among fans. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie is scheduled to release on August 14 and features a stellar cast including Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra.
