Mumbai: Veteran playback singer Alka Yagnik has got a rare neuro disease, due to which she is unable to hear. The singer recently mentioned her disease through a social media post.
Along with this, the singer told why she has been inactive for a long time. Giving information about her problem, Alka has advised fans and fellow artists to stay away from loud music.
Gathering courage, I am sharing it with my well-wishers: Alka
Sharing a post on her Instagram account on June 17, Alka wrote, ‘For all my fans, friends, followers and well-wishers. A few weeks ago, when I got off a flight, I realized that I was not able to hear anything.
After gathering some courage after several weeks of this incident, I am now telling my friends and well-wishers about this, who are constantly asking me where I am missing.’
‘I am shocked by this sudden incident’
The singer further wrote, ‘My doctors have diagnosed a rare sensory nerve hearing loss, which I have suffered due to a viral attack. This sudden incident has shocked me.
I am trying to accept it myself and want all of you to remember me in your prayers in the meantime.’
‘Hope life will come back on track’
At the end of the post, Alka has advised people not to listen to loud music and use headphones less.
The singer wrote, ‘Someday I will definitely talk about the damage caused to my health by my professional life. With all your love and support, I hope to bring my life back on track.
I hope to meet you again soon. Your support and understanding at this critical time means a lot to me.’

Famous playback singer Sonu Nigam commented on Alka’s post. He wrote, ‘I knew something was wrong. I will come back soon and meet you. I wish you a speedy recovery.’
At the same time, singer Ila Arun wrote, ‘It feels very sad to hear this. Dear Alka, I had commented ‘beautiful’ just by looking at the photo, but then I read the caption and felt very sad. I pray that you get well soon.’

58-year-old Alka Yagnik is one of the famous playback singers of Bollywood. Alka, who has recorded more than 21 thousand songs in more than 25 languages, has won 2 National Awards and 7 Filmfare Awards.
In 2022, the Guinness Book of World Records considered her the most streamed artist worldwide.
Alka made her debut as a playback singer with the film ‘Payal Ki Jhankar’ released in 1980. She has also sung songs for films like ‘Crew’ and ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ released in 2024.
