Mumbai: India’s famous TV show Taarak Mehta ka Ulta Chashma’s character Jethalal’s costume fabric is imported from Italy. Costume designer Jeetu Lakhani shared the astonishing information. Also, his costumes are never repeated once they are used, added the costume designer.

Being in the service for 16 years, Lakhani said that he’s designing Jethalal’s costumes for the last 16 years and once-used costumes are never repeated. On the screen, the clothes seem very simple to the audience but their fabric is imported from Italy. Younger Lakhani, Rohit claimed that they receive orders from other countries also to design the clothes that Jethalal wore in the show.

“A major portion of the budget is spent on costume designing. The selection of the type of costumes is made by the Director, Creative Director and many more people associated with the channel. Onboard costume designers are hired for this work and they are provided with the brief about the characters in the show.

Partho Ghoshal, a costume designer claimed that an expenditure of Rs.10 Lakh is made every month on the costumes. Due to the shows running for long on the screens, the budget hikes up to crores.

“If the show depicts a middle-class family, then the clothes can be repeated, so that it seems relatable to the audience. Sometimes, after 50 episodes, rare characters are shown with repeated clothes. Being a costume designer, I save myself from the repetition of clothes, so that I can show my creativity.” Partho said.
