New Delhi: Amidst mounting controversies, Netflix has made changes in the series IC 814- The Kandahar Hijack. Netflix has decided to include the real and code names of the hijackers in the opening disclaimer of the series.
Netflix said in an official statement, ‘For viewers unaware of the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 in 1999, the opening disclaimer includes the real and code names of the hijackers. The code names in the series are the same names used during the real incident. We are committed to the original representation of every story.’
Earlier, Netflix had talked about reviewing the content in front of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Netflix’s India content head Monica Shergill appeared before the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday.
There was a controversy over the usage of ‘Hindu names’ of the terrorists in The Kandahar Hijack and a demand arose to ban it. After this, the ministry had called Monica, the Content head of Netflix to respond.
Monica assured the ministry that we will review the content of the series. He had guaranteed that the sentiments of the country will be taken care of while bringing content on Netflix in future as well.
IC 814 series was released on Netflix on 29 August, which is based on the Kandahar plane hijack. In this, the terrorists are named Bhola and Shankar. There is a controversy over this.
