Mumbai: Comedian Kunal Kamra has now approached the Bombay High Court in the parody song case on Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. In the High Court, he has demanded the cancellation of the FIR registered by the Mumbai Police.
Kamra had filed a petition in the High Court on April 5, claiming that the FIR lodged against him is a violation of his fundamental rights granted by the Constitution. The case will be heard by a division bench of Justice SV Kotwal and Justice SM Modak of the Bombay High Court on April 21.
Kamra did not appear even in the third summons
Apart from this, Kunal Kamra did not appear before the Mumbai Police even on the third summons. He was sent the third summons on 2 April, in which he was asked to appear on 5 April.
Actually, an FIR has been registered against Kunal Kamra in Mumbai’s Khar police station in the case of a parody song on Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. Kamra had done a parody in a stand-up comedy show in which Shinde was called a traitor.
Kamra had commented on the police raid on March 31
Earlier on March 31, Mumbai Police had reached comedian Kunal Kamra’s house. On this, Kamra had written on social media – ‘Going to an address where I have not been living for the last ten years is a waste of your time and public resources.’
Kamra appeared in the Madras High Court on 1 April
Kunal Kamra appeared in the Madras High Court on April 1. He claimed that the police were trying to arrest him, so he should be granted transit anticipatory bail. While hearing the case, Justice Sundar Mohan granted transit anticipatory bail to Kamra. After this, he shared a post on X.
“Artists today have only two options: sell your soul and become a puppet for the dollar, or quietly die out.”
However, earlier on March 28, the High Court had granted anticipatory bail to Kamra till April 7.
