Mumbai: Composer duo Salim-Sulaiman, marking the fifth year of their independent music label, Merchant Records, revealed they released 140 singles in 2024. Salim Merchant expressed his gratitude for the success, highlighting the label’s vision of promoting organic music and providing a platform for talent across India, including remote areas. According to the reports,Salim said that music is not an industry but a community. He reflected on the year’s successful collaborations between seasoned and emerging artists in an interview which went viral on internet.
One key project was their annual album, Bhoomi, which featured artists like Sonu Nigam, Vishal Dadlani, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sunidhi Chauhan. Salim shared that their plans for 2025 include global collaborations, focusing on indigenous folk and tribal artists, as well as international musicians.
Despite the challenges of promoting independent music without major label support, Salim mentioned that live shows and the help of efficient teams allowed them to continue creating high-quality projects.
