Mumbai: The highly anticipated collaboration between Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and director Atlee has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts with South Indian legend Rajinikanth. The film, a mega-budget period drama produced by Sun Pictures, was set to feature two prominent stars from the North and South Indian film industries.
Atlee, known for his larger-than-life storytelling, was in advanced discussions with Salman Khan for the film, which revolves around reincarnation set against a grand historical backdrop. The project was touted to be similar in scale to Game of Thrones, with a staggering budget of Rs 650 crore.
According to industry insiders, the film was planned as a two-hero project, with the makers hoping to rope in either Kamal Haasan or Rajinikanth alongside Salman Khan. However, negotiations with both Tamil cinema legends fell through.
A source revealed, “Kamal Haasan was approached for the role of Salman Khan’s father, but he wasn’t convinced about the part. On the other hand, Rajinikanth’s schedule is packed with Coolie and Jailer 2 until 2026, making his availability difficult.”
With no suitable replacements found among senior Tamil stars, the makers reportedly explored international names. Hollywood action legend Sylvester Stallone was considered, but financial constraints hindered the deal.
After exhausting all options, the team decided to temporarily shelve the project. The makers are still exploring international casting options, but the complexity of contracts and logistical challenges has delayed the film further.
Despite the setback, Salman Khan, Atlee, and Sun Pictures remain committed to working together in the future. The ambitious project is expected to unite talent from different film industries, potentially creating a cinematic spectacle that blends Indian and international storytelling.
Fans will have to wait a little longer to witness this grand collaboration on the silver screen.
