Mumbai, July 5: TV actress Shefali Jariwala died a few days ago due to cardiac arrest. Shefali was famous in the industry as ‘Kaanta Laga Girl’. After her death, the makers of this song, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, paid tribute to her and said that they are retiring this song forever. Now it will never be remake. Singer Sona Mohapatra has expressed her displeasure over this decision of the makers. She has slammed both of them for this on her social media without naming them.
Sona writes in the story- ‘Three legends together made Kaanta Laga. Composer, lyricist and singer- RD Burman, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Lata Mangeshkar. People calling themselves makers have retired this song. This is an attempt to get PR from a death. (Viral B is a paid site). Two people made a vulgar song by remixing it with a 19-year-old girl. (Obviously, they would not have taken permission from the legend before doing so.) May the soul of a 42-year-old woman rest in peace, but what about the legacy?’
Actually, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru shared a post on their Instagram on July 3 remembering Shefali Jariwala. In which they wrote, yesterday was the prayer meeting. Time to say the last goodbye. She always used to say that she wanted to be the one and only ‘Kaanta Laga’ girl. That’s why we never made a sequel and will never make it now. We are retiring ‘Kaanta Laga’ forever. This song was always Shefali’s and will always be hers.
How did Shefali get the song ‘Kaanta Laga’?
While talking to ANI, Vinay Sapru had revealed how he cast Shefali for Kaanta Laga. He said, ‘Our journey started from Linking Road in Mumbai. Radhika and I were driving on Linking Road, Bandra and we were passing through a forest. We saw a young girl crossing the road on a scooter hugging her mother. As we passed by, Radhika felt that the girl was very special. So we stopped and asked her if she would come to our office. And that’s where our journey began.’
