Mumbai: Singer Monali Thakur has released an official statement addressing the controversy surrounding her abrupt exit from a concert in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on December 22. The singer walked off the stage just 45 minutes into her performance, citing mismanagement by the organisers.

In her statement on Instagram, Monali addressed accusations of harassment made against her and her team by the event management. She highlighted the organisers’ mistreatment of vendors and backstage crew.

“It is absolutely unacceptable to treat vendors poorly, cheat them of their hard-earned money, or con them in any way. Disrespecting and harassing those working behind the scenes—whether they are backstage crew, artist managers, or artist coordinators—is not the way forward,” she wrote.

Monali also attached a confession and apology letter from Aman, the co-founder of Backroom Entertainments, the organising team behind the event.

Organisers Admit Fault

In the attached letter, Aman expressed gratitude to Monali and her team while admitting the mishandling of the event.

“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Team Monali Thakur for their kindness, humbleness, support, and encouragement from the very beginning,” the letter read.

Aman acknowledged the inconvenience caused to Monali and her crew, apologising for the actions of certain individuals from the organising team.

“It is important to note that the incident was not a reflection of the efforts of either team, but rather the actions of a couple of individuals by our side,” the letter stated.

Monali’s Comments on Stage Mismanagement

Earlier, a video shared by Dalimss News on Instagram captured Monali addressing the audience before leaving the stage. Apologising to the attendees, she criticised the event organisers for their lack of professionalism and accused them of “stealing money.”

“I am disheartened that my team and I were so excited to perform here. Let’s not talk about the infrastructure and its condition, as that is the management’s responsibility. I can’t explain what they have done to the stage just so they can steal money,” Monali said in the viral clip.
