Espionage Case: Jyoti Malhotra to Move Supreme Court

YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, currently facing grave allegations of spying for Pakistan, is now set to approach the Supreme Court for bail. Jyoti, who has been lodged in Hisar’s Central Jail-2 for nearly a year, has already seen her bail pleas rejected by both a local court and the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Jyoti Malhotra, who runs a YouTube channel titled ‘Travel-with-Jo’, was arrested on May 16, 2025, based on an FIR registered at the Civil Lines Police Station in Hisar. The police and investigative agencies allege that during her visit to Pakistan, Jyoti established contact with an official from the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi, identified as ‘Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish’.

Throughout this period, the two maintained constant contact via mobile communication. Furthermore, agencies suspect that sensitive information pertaining to national security was exchanged through this channel.

Seeking Bail on Grounds of Parity
Jyoti Malhotra’s counsel, Advocate Ravinder Singh Dhull, stated that they are now preparing to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court. The primary basis of their defense will be the principle of ‘parity’.

Two other youths from Haryana and Punjab who faced identical charges of espionage and sections under the Official Secrets Act—have already been granted bail. Relief will be sought from the Supreme Court in Jyoti’s case by citing this very precedent.
